A conversation with a four year old (Heaven help me)

AIDAN: Mom, do you remember when I was sick?

ME: Yes, I do.

AIDAN: You remember?

ME: Yes.

AIDAN: When I was sick, I mean.

ME: Yes, Aidan, I remember when you were sick.

AIDAN: You remember when I was sick??!!

ME: Yes! Aidan, I remember when you were sick! Can you please move on to the next part of your story?

AIDAN: Mom! It’s not a story!

ME: Of course not. Can you please tell me what you were going to say after “Do you remember when I was sick”?

AIDAN: When I was sick.

ME: Yes, when you were sick! What about it?

AIDAN: I was really sick.

ME: Yes, you were.

AIDAN: …

ME: Is that it?

AIDAN: Yep!

ME: Okay, then. (read: holy fucking hell.)

My girlfriend’s daughter (turns four in Sept) is currently in the phase of asking the definition of every word in her life, regardless of how long she’s already been using that word.

    Like: “What’s a dog?”

    It’s quite cyclical.

Bad news – my almost nine year old still does this! Hopefully your girlfriend’s daughter outgrows it more quickly. :)
